Who We Are

The WSPC is housed within the Washington State Department of Health. We are a state-based network of healthcare facilities, state agencies, community members, tribal representatives, doulas, birthworkers, and families that work together to improve the quality of maternal healthcare in Washington.

Founded in 1980, our mission is to end preventable morbidity, mortality, and disparities in pregnancy, postpartum, and infant care.

What We Do

The WSPC leads and supports data-driven quality improvement initiatives guided by the Washington Maternal Mortality Review Panel recommendations, best practice, and the needs of Washington families. We do this through multiple approaches, including:

Community-based grant and funding opportunities: Supporting local organizations working to improve perinatal health in their communities.

Quality improvement support: Helping hospitals and care teams implement evidence-based practices that improve maternal and infant outcomes.

Statewide convening and collaboration: Bringing partners together through biannual meetings and ongoing network-building.

Data and resource sharing: Distributing newsletters, reports, and data resources — like our WSPC Data Snapshots — to keep partners informed and connected.

What We Value

Equity Icon

Equity

Eliminate disparities in perinatal outcomes based on race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and other factors. Equity is at the heart of the WSPC, and we prioritize projects that address social determinants of health, such as access to culturally responsive care.
